Lake City Skiers
Just off U.S. Highway 30, at 2455 Hidden Lake Dr., in Warsaw, the Lake City Skiers are preparing for their first show of the season Sunday. The team originally started in 1989 with 14 members, and has grown to 60 members this season. However, not all the members are skiers; some are part of the support staff.
All members are volunteers and their ages range from 8 to about 50.
Anyone can join the Lake City Skiers; for individuals, it’s $75, and they must have a USA Water Ski membership. For a family membership, it’s $200, as well as the USA Water Ski membership.
Each show is an hour-long, themed show with the skiers building human pyramids, doing jumps and tricks, a ballet line, barefoot water skiing, swivel skiing and other routines.
The shows and parking are free; there are two 15-minute intermissions that allow people to donate if they wish. Shows are at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays and Tuesdays, and practices are 5-8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
In their 27th year, they will host three tournaments: the City of Lakes, the Central Region tournament and the Division II Nationals. The Lake City Skiers are 3-time winners. The last chance to see the Lake City Skiers in action will be on Sunday, Sept. 4.
